Wellness Detective Comments: To continue my healing journey, I felt detoxifying my body was important. I have been using nutrition to dextoxify, but needed to take this one step further.   In India there are steam like sauna baths, which I had experienced while in Pondicherry, India in August 2010 after one Ayurvedic massage treatment.

Right now, I reside near the Danforth in east end Toronto and discovered infrared sauna sessions at Inspired Life Health Centre. I stay for about 45 minutes in the sauna and hydrate well with at least 3 litres of water.  I use a towel to wipe out the toxins. I have had two sauna sessions so far and will continue on.

Here’s a video outlining the benefits of infrared saunas:

If you aren’t able to make it to an infrared sauna, try a fiber cleanse for detoxification. Fiber has a unique ability to expand within the colon, collecting wastes and toxins and helping sweep them from the body. No matter what detoxification program you’re attempting, be sure to drink lots of purified water.

Wellness Detective Comments: I first learned about Emotional Release body work treatment on Saturday, January 28th, 2012 from my friend Rebecca who came to visit me after my first Chemotherapy treatment.  She explained about the process of how releasing one’s emotions work through this type of treatment.  It was very fascinating to hear about the process and she suggested I try it out.

So, I did contact the therapist, who did one remote energy healing treatment for me—where I would lie down for an hour.  This happened in mid February and then I got busy.  I was also a bit tired due to the Chemotherapy and took awhile to follow up with therapist.  I then decided one weekend it was time to continue to do the healing work, and I booked an appointment for Tuesday, March 20th, 2012.

I ventured to downtown Toronto mid day and went to the home of the therapist where she practices.  She gave me an overview of the process, offered me tea and made me feel comfortable.  I then undressed to my undergarments and covered myself with a towel on the massage table.  She pressed hardly on certain points on the body that corresponded to chakra points.  It was painful and at times, I would cough, scream or even cry.  I released many pent up emotions that day and the toughest one, was at the heart chakra.   I told the therapist, I can’t take it, but she reminded me that it was old emotions and memories connected to childhood.

I’ve experienced many types of massages and healing treatments, but this is one of the best sessions I have ever had.  If you’d like more information about this therapist, contact us here and I’ll share the information.

Wellness Detective Comments: In the past week, two people have sent me messages suggesting I watch the documentary “Food Matters” which highlights fighting cancer with nutrition.  Since my recent diagnosis, my plan of action is to increase my greens intake and wheatgrass juice.  Juicing and salads will be my main food regime.  Alkalinity in my body is the desired state in my journey back to wellness.  Watch this video clip from the documentary “Food Matters” and let me know your thoughts.

Wellness Detective Comments: I was angry for much of my teens and early 20s.  I was angry that I had a father who only had time to have lunch with me the odd time and only started spending a little more time with me when I turned 17,  because my mother forced him to take me out on day.  I internalized this anger and left it unexpressed.  Then when I turned 24, it was confirmed that I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.  I felt in many ways that I created and attracted cancer due not dealing with my anger issues.  It has taken me several years of healing and my journey back to health, to let go of the anger and put things in perspective.

If you are angry right now, I highly recommend adopting a few strategies to deal with your anger. Here’s an article that I would like for you to read.

Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Mumtaz_Hussain

So there you are, you’ve just had a row with your beloved/child/parent/flatmate and you’re sitting there absolutely fuming. You’ve got smoke coming out of your ears and you’re so livid that the vein in your forehead is pulsing so hard it literally might just pop out of your head. So you sit and plan their demise in the minutest of detail. Does this sound like you? Oh yes, we’ve all been there!

But hang on a minute…is this really how you want to feel? Burning up with all-consuming anger? You love this person, right? Well OK, maybe you don’t love them but you do at least like them don’t you? Well even if you don’t, you love yourself don’t you? More to the point you do know that letting go of this anger is healthy for you don’t you?

OK so that’s our starting point. Letting go of the negativity. Here we go!

Firstly the all important disclaimer (and this one is really important)…if you are being abused in any way whether it’s mental or physical, or if the object of your anger is infringing your human rights in any way, or bullying you, then please contact the Authorities. They will help you.

So now let’s take a moment to review the situation before the letting-go process begins. Blazing row…hurt feelings…are we on the same page?

Step 1: The first secret is to take a few deep breaths. Sounds like an old cliche but it really does work. So go ahead and take a few deep breaths, in through your nose and out through your mouth. You’re feeling better already aren’t you? Well read on because there’s more and it gets better you’ll be glad to know.

Step 2: The next thing I do is I tell myself over and over again those 3 little magic words “…this will pass…” Why do I do that? Well simply because I know it does – everything always passes. I remind myself of the many times in the past when I’ve felt anger and it’s passed. This will pass. This will pass. This will pass.

Eventually I can truly feel the tension in my shoulders releasing and my clenched fists have become loosened. I’m breathing calmly and as for that vein in my head? All gone.

I’m still upset but I’m out of the red zone. Most importantly, I can feel the anger leaving my body.

Step 3: The next secret is to build on the good feelings that are slowly emerging. This is a crucial step that has a snowball effect in the letting-go process.

How shall we do this? One good way is to find a memory about that person which makes you feel good and makes you smile. Is there a time when you both did something together that you really enjoyed? Did he/she surprise you pleasantly? What connects you together in a fun and happy way? Write them down if you want to – sometimes this speeds up the letting-go process.

Next I will take a few moments to assess how I’m feeling. Remember I’m still saying over and over “this will pass”. By this stage I’m always feeling less livid and more light. Then I smile to myself as more good memories suddenly pop into my head like corn popping in a hot pan, as my mental filing system kicks into gear to help me out of this sticky moment and letting it go becomes all the more sweeter. As my list of good memories grows and grows I quickly realise that this process of letting go is much more creative and productive than holding on to the anger. By this stage of the process I’m actually having fun!

Step 4: The best step of all the steps is when it dawns on me that I’ve successfully let it go. The result I was aiming for all along has been achieved! I did it! That truth brings the biggest smile back to my face.

Be aware also that at any stage of the process you may feel like crying. This is really normal and it’s important to let the tears flow. Crying is a release and it’s always better out than in I say, so go ahead and grab a big box of tissues and let it out.

So there you have it, my simple plan for releasing anger. Oh I know I’ll revisit the argument, because let’s face it I’m a woman (relax ladies…men do it too!) but the success lies in the fact that I’ve taken the sting out of the situation. The argument may still need to be resolved, but the raw stinging emotion is gone. I’ve regained a sense of perspective and the disagreement has far less significance. I feel good about myself and ultimately this means that dealing with and resolving the issues that caused the row in the first place will be far less stressful.

And it’s all thanks to the fact that I used my 4 simple secrets to letting go of anger.

I am Mumtaz Hussain and I believe passionately that every man, woman and child always deserves to feel fantastic about themselves. I’m a single mum of two and I’ve successfully created a fabulous life for myself and my children. Find out more about me at http://todaymumtaz.blogspot.com

Wellness Detective Comments: I was taking medications from 2003-2010 that had an impact on my liver.  Through the years, I have tried different products that assisted with liver cleanse.  Colon cleanse is important before this process begins.  I would suggest going to a professional for colonics or administer an enema at home.  The dark circles under my eyes was a sign that my liver required cleansing.

Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Mark_Mathew

Our liver acts as a natural detoxifier of our body with the aid of other organs to help eliminate harmful toxins through urination and fetal excretion. It can do its functions well as long as the flow is continuous and toxins will not accumulate to hinder its well and effective performance. It is very important not to abuse the natural filter of our body but instead, allow it to function at its best by giving extra care to our organs. In giving proper attention to our liver, it is better to incorporate a natural cleansing diet in your lifestyle to aid in the maintenance of a healthy liver. With proper cleansing, it will help the liver perform its functions like protein synthesis and biochemical production and eliminate gallstones and other harmful toxins.

Prior to a liver detox program, you can first do a colon cleansing which will eliminate all substances from our body to purify the blood. Doing so will reduce the stress that the liver will be experiencing during the detoxification program and will make you feel better.

A liver cleanse diet must include fresh fruits and vegetables that are free from pesticides and fungicides or simply organically grown foods. Always keep in mind that it is better to perform a liver cleansing detox on a weekend night to prevent discomfort. It is also advisable to have a light exercise before starting a program. You can choose a program that can either be light or strong depending on your body’s capability.

An example of an all-natural liver cleanse is a mixed tea which will be facilitating a good liver support and will address the whole digestion process. The ingredients are relatively easy to find and the tea is very easy to make. The particular ingredients are dandelion root, burdock root, peppermint leaf, chamomile flower, fennel, seed, and licorine root. The procedure to make the tea is simple. Just get a handful of each and add about a quarter of water. Put this to a pot and bring it to boil then turn the heat to low and simmer it for about twenty minutes. Let it cool for a while and you can drink this all day. This is a very good support for the liver and the digestive system.

Natural way of detoxification is a safe procedure that cannot harm any organ further. Just always remember to maintain a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of any accumulation of toxins and to free the liver from stress.

Body detoxification can be started with reducing your consumption of foods that has high quantity of toxins such as processed foods, alcohol, artificial sugar, and coffee and increase your amount of intake of fresh fruits and vegetable. Wellness Detective Comments: Right now, I am in Kerala, India at an Ayurvedic Hospital.  I have marked my 2 weeks already of my 3 week stay.  In the busy life that takes over while living in North America, I decided that I needed a rest, detox and overall wellness retreat.  I started to enquire about options in early January 2011, and came across Arya Vaidya Sala, Ayurvedic Hospital and Research Centre.  I booked my stay and made a commitment to travel to India in August 2011.  I planned to do it alone, but one of my family members decided to join me.

So far, it’s been the best vacation, we’ve ever had.  We have taken time for “me” and it feels great.  Where else, can we have daily oil massages and all meals cooked for us and we just bask in pure relaxation.  I would highly suggest you take “me” time in your annual schedule and book some time away in an ashram, meditation centre or wellness retreat.  Read this article that outlines why spiritual and yoga retreats have such popularity today.

Why Spiritual and Yoga Retreats are so Popular Today

Wellness and Yoga is seeping deep into Western culture in recent years as is shown in the rising numbers of people booking spiritual, wellness and yoga retreats all over the world.

Leaving it all behind

For some, the realisation that they can enjoy a break away from the confines of ‘real life’ and combine it with learning a little more about themselves, and the way in which they can heal or embrace life more fully, is the key factor.

For others it’s a way of delving deeper into that mystery which is the human mind and psyche by tapping into the power of their own spirituality through meditation, chants, yoga, mantra and song.

Healing through group support

It is a well known fact that the energy and support from a group offers powerful healing and wellness to individuals who are troubled, ill or simply a little worn out by life’s twists and turns.

Whilst we all know that relaxation is key to well-being, few of us really understand the mechanics of how to de-stress, relax and embrace well-being in our daily lives. Spiritual, Wellness and Yoga retreats are climbing in popularity as they are able to provide the path for us to attain this peace and tranquility.

Many of the holidays and retreats are group based and can have a small handful of people attending or a large group. The support from the group encourages those attending to explore further than they normally would and to shrug off inhibitions created by social conditioning so that they can fully embrace the energy and sharing that is given in such groups.

Unification through a desire to belong

Spending time within a group unified through a theme or the same desires is empowering and gives a sense of belonging where perhaps none existed previously.

In today’s world we are all hurrying and being bombarded with information that we don’t necessarily find useful and this only increases our stress levels and exacerbates our unhappiness in terms of relationships, finances and health issues.

When we come together as a group in a way that unifies us, we are free to explore our inner selves in safety knowing that the others around us support and share our feelings.

The other side of this success of such retreats lies in the insular lives we currently live. We don’t have communities in the way they were developed thirty to a hundred years ago. Each of us lives in our tidy little world and we communicate through electronic devices such as phones, computers, iPads, laptops and mobiles. Families email or Skype each other even when they are next door neighbours. We have allowed community and family, in their truest sense, to lapse.

As human beings we need to reach out and connect. We need the comfort of knowing we are not alone in our suffering or in our joy. Groups and sharing with others is an important part of our self development, part of ourselves that needs nurturing, and retreats and holidays that can provide this are ever more attractive.

Some groups that offer a genuine approach to holidays in this field include Spiritual Holidays and Retreats, Deva Premal&Miten, Matador Network and Retreat Finder. Find the right retreat for you. There are many such events to participate in and they can range from one hour to months depending on which one you choose. Do your research, ask the right questions and investigate the founders and facilitators of the courses and breaks you are interested in before booking.

Wellness Detective Comments: I started skin brushing in Spring 2008, but it was not until Fall 2009, that I began to brush my skin regularly.    When I started the raw food lifestyle, my raw food coach recommended skin brushing as part of my new health regime.  I didn’t fully understand the benefits of skin brushing until I attended a Raw Food Retreat with Erika Wolff (www.powerofraw.com) the following year.  I now regularly dry brush my skin just before I take a bath, and it is great for my lymphatic system.

Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Amy_Hagerup

When I first learned about the specific things we can do for having healthy skin, I realized in a small way the benefit of skin brushing. So I bought a brush and would do skin brushing occasionally in the bath. I wasn’t too committed to doing it which translated meant that I didn’t really believe the benefit was worth my time and effort.

That is no longer true. I now allow time to do dry skin brushing every day right before I bathe. The reason it is now part of my personal wellness program is because I’ve learned the benefits and I believe they are true.

The skin, the largest organ of the body, is responsible for 1/4 of the body’s detoxification every day. It actually eliminates two pounds of acid waste daily. When the blood is full of toxic materials, it is the skin that will show this first. The skin is the last to receive nutrients that it needs, yet the first to show signs of imbalance or deficiency!

All of that was enough information to make me cross the line of head knowledge about it (believing those are nice facts) and heart knowledge (actually choosing to incorporate skin brushing into my daily routine to reap the health benefits myself).

Here are the benefits of skin brushing that I have learned:

1. Helps the body eliminate cellulite.
2. Helps the skin to tighten.
3. Works wonders when you’re losing weight (or have lost weight and are now dealing with sagging skin).
4. Sloughs off dead cells, thus improving skin texture and cell renewal.
5. Stimulates blood flow to the skin, which in turns helps the body to rid itself of wastes.
6. Helps the body detox even better when alfalfa supplements are taken in conjunction with skin brushing.
7. Rejuvenates the nerve system by stimulating the nerve endings.
8. Eliminates clogged pores so that the skin can absorb nutrients better.

Want to know how to get started? Buy a stiff, natural body brush. If it seems too firm on dry skin, start with it wet and soapy in the shower or bath. Once the skin gets stronger, switch to dry brushing. Dry skin brushing will give stronger stimulation that your skin needs. Use a prescribed sequence of hands, arms, chest, stomach. Then proceed to brush feet, legs, buttocks, remembering to always brush toward the heart in long strokes. For certain targeted areas (like upper thighs, stomach, buttocks) you can use circular motions, but always end with long strokes.)

After I finish brushing, bathing, and drying off, I complete my skin health treatment by infusing my skin with natural vitamins using my favorite body lotion. I don’t know about you, but I want to be sure my skin care reflects my commitment to having a healthy body, and that now includes skin brushing.
